The title of the film was What's Eating Gilbert Grape (no question mark!). The title character is a grocery store clerk, who cares for his morbidly obese mother and mentally impaired younger brother Arnie in a sleepy Midwestern town. Arnie is played by Leonardo DiCaprio – the role that won him his first Oscar nomination. Juliette Lewis plays Becky, a young woman who is stuck in town with her grandmother when their SUV breaks down on the way to a caravan club gathering.
(It's not the Caravan Club as we know it in the UK, obiously. It's the Airstreamers Club – the Airstreamer being an American brand of luxury caravan, with distinctive rounded coachwork of polished aluminium, originating in the 1930s.)
